Example case study: construction materials market research for products manufacturer
A drainage manufacturer based in Ireland wanted to assess the opportunity in the GB market with a view to setting up a sales operation. The product had a superior technical performance compared to most existing products, although there were many competing suppliers.
A key aspect of the market research on this construction product involved determining which customer groups had the largest influence on which systems were used, gathering their views on the product’s key benefits and assessing what level of price premium could be commanded over existing solutions.
To meet the objectives we conducted an in-depth telephone market research programme consisting of 80 interviews split between engineers, main contractors, civil engineers, ground workers and local authorities. To support the field research, we carried out desk research to compare the credentials of competitor products and assessed the impact of new legislation on the approval process.
The client is using the research findings and the recommended next steps detailed in the report to help launch the product into the GB market.
Example case study: market research for aggregates company
We worked with this quarry company to help develop sales into the UK market for a specialist type of aggregate. Following on from this we were asked to assess the market in the USA to see if there was potential for a similar type of aggregate used in manufacturing high friction surface treatments for roads.
We needed to identify the market size, key players, route to market, existing sources of similar products, pricing, future trends and potential sales leads.
We collected this information through extensive desk research as well as telephone interviews with key executives in the industry including representatives from trade associations, potential customers, manufacturers and users.
